The summit was held at the Jakarta International Conference Center, and PLN Enjiniring's participation reflects its efforts in the development and promotion of new energy and renewable energy, particularly in driving energy transition through green hydrogen technology.
PLN Enjiniring project team leader and process engineer Alfian Muhammad Reza delivered a keynote speech at the summit.
As a speaker at the "PLN Enjiniring Hydrogen Energy Engineering" special session, Alfian elaborated on PLN Enjiniring's comprehensive involvement in hydrogen energy system development, including system design, infrastructure construction, and strategic planning for the implementation of hydrogen energy technology in Indonesia.
The three core technology paths discussed in the speech focused on steam methane reforming (SMR), gasification for hydrogen production, and water electrolysis for hydrogen production. Alfian specifically mentioned the application potential of high-temperature thermochemical processes, as well as the development prospects of fuel cell technology as an important component of sustainable power systems.
The project landing results show that the PLN Group has built 22 green hydrogen plants in multiple locations in Indonesia, with an annual production capacity of 203 tons. It also introduced the under-construction Senayan hydrogen refueling station (HRS) demonstration project, as well as innovative pilot projects such as hydrogen energy on Medang Island and photovoltaic-fuel cell hybrid power supply on Sumba Island.
The concept of "Excess Green Hydrogen" proposed in the innovative solution presentation has attracted attention—this solution produces hydrogen energy by utilizing redundant power from power plants without the need for significant additional investment. Additionally, the economic value and environmental application potential of the byproduct "Green Oxygen" from water electrolysis were introduced. This innovation won the "2024 PLN Innovation Achievement Award."
